Volunteers and Dump Truck Caravan Help Build a New Baseball Diamond
On Saturday, May 19, 2007, the town of Glandorf came alive with the thunder of a carvan of dump trucks heading for Deters Park. A total of 175 loads carrying an estimated 1,000 tons of dirt to make a baseball diamond at Deters Park.
Charles Schroeder and Park Board Committee (Al Kaufman, Mark Wehri and Tom Nienberg) along with baseball coach Keith Schierloh created the plan to haul truck loads of dirt to build the new diamond.
With the help of local contractors and business men, a total of 12 dump trucks were volunteered.
Dump truck drivers included: Chet Kreinbrink and Jason Heringhaus of Kreinbrink Builders, Chris Gerding of Gerding's Excavating, Brent Leopold, Ron and Derry Meyer of Meyer's Auto, Ron Schnipke of Schnipke Builders, Andy Brickner of Brickner Construction, Jerry Niese of Niese Builders, Elmer Meyer of Glandorf Tile, and Mark Kaufman of the Village of Glandorf.
Also, Rick Rosengarten of Buckeye Trucking did the loading with an excavator and Jeff Gerding, of Gerding's Excavating did the leveling with a bulldozer after each load.
These volunteers saved the park an estimated $20,000 in labor and trucking!
Volunteers Create Mini-Golf Course
Dr. Ron Black has compiled a tribute to the dozens of volunteers and donors that contributed to the miniature golf course in Glandorf Park.
The Glandorf Park miniature golf course was not purchased from a "kit." Volunteers, both young and old, designed and created this original nine-hole golf course together. The dedication and long hours brought forth by volunteers, as well as the generosity of donors, has created an unique golf course that we all can be proud of.
